Founded in 2012, Otherworld Theatre Company is a Chicago-based performing arts ensemble dedicated to exploring the infinite possibilities of Science Fiction and Fantasy storytelling on stage.
We believe that speculative fiction is more than just escape; it is a mirror held up to our world. Through cosmic voyages, sword-and-sorcery epics, unhinged political satires, and interactive comedy, we create visceral, theatrical experiences that celebrate imagination, question authority, and explore what it truly means to be human.
Every great story needs a launchpad, and Otherworld has found its artistic sanctuary in Lincoln Park at The Greenhouse Theater Center.
Standing in this historic Lincoln Avenue space carries immense meaning for us. This address was once the legendary home of The Organic Theater Company - a pioneer of Chicago’s off-Loop theatre movement that fundamentally redefined what storefront theatre could be. The Organic didn't just produce plays; they embraced high-concept storytelling, bold practical effects, comic book aesthetics, and thrilling genre-bending work (from sci-fi adventures like Warp! to world-premiere adaptations).
By stepping into the space forged by the Organic, Otherworld proudly carries that torch into a new era. We are honoring a legacy of risk-taking, genre-focused theatre while cultivating a vibrant, welcoming home for the next generation of sci-fi, fantasy, and comedy creators.
